Found poem

Based off of Temple Grandin's "The world needs all kinds of minds" speech

"They"

Thought I was crazy-
Building it in my head.

Solve my work
not myself
I had to learn...
They don't understand.

Feelings? Who would think?

They Don't think in picture
Into detail-
building abstract

One kind of mind.

think
simple problem
motivate unthinkable.

The world needs all kinds of minds.

HW poem (story + narrative, & rhyming sequences)

The goldfish

I was asked to take care of my neighbor's fish,
I always had admired that pretty golden fish.

After the flushing, I was in total denial.
After the crying my eyes were red and I forgot how to smile.

But I do remember how it all began,
with a an empty bag of fish food and a glass of milk in my hand.

I was only three years old, what could I do?
I thought the fish were thirsty, and I felt considerate too.

I knew not what better to do,
I feed the fish milk, some crackers too.

Two upside down goldfish made me cry,
as I waved and watched the fishes go bye.

Poem on an incident

Marlboro in the soul

As she exhales, clouds of grey twirl in front of her.
She is reminded of her Marlboro soul.
The sharp metal points of five thin needles being pushed into her arm
The stretcher she lay her body across, as three young men carried her down the stairs.
The pale blue scrubs the doctors wore.
The flashing lights, forcing her to take a large gulp of air.
The gulp she thought may be her last.
The machine which got her heart pumping again
The nurses bright green eyes, and the way her eyes appeared to be infinite.
She hands the cashier a twenty, walks of of the store. Marlboro in her soul.

response to poem in class

If you know about what was going on in Russia at the time, then this poem will make sense to you. Hate was everywhere, resulting in a poor starving girl, with no choice about how her future will go. It is out of her reach. She is going through puberty, which in the poem seems to represent growth. The growth which normal teens will go through, but she will envy- as she grows skinner and skinner. With no choice, trying to survive survive. Its very sad, but never something to forget. Never.

Response to poem in class

Poem response- Incident
"
When there is no moving on
and everything around you feels like a blur,
look into you memory,
When no solution is available, keep it close.
Memories won't leave you alone.
You may leave memories alone, and if never is the right time
Learn, and never will always be by your side.

interpretation of a painting

van-gogh-potato-eaters.jpg

This picture is titled: Potato Eaters
By: Van Gogh
Analyze:
In the picture there is a family eating dinner.
Dinner is something ordinary we have everyday.
I asked myself: why did Van Gogh  bother to make a painting of it, if it is completely ordinary?
I think he wanted to document the average life of many Europeans.
Potato was a crop they ate everyday, all week (During that time period).
Some observations were:
- There is a oil lamp hanging above their heads, but outside the windows it appears to be pitch black.
- Everyone, including the elder sitting at the table, look very thin. Also they don't appear to have very good posture. Probably because no one in the painting looks especially 'thrilled' to be their.
-  The clothing looks old, and used, very pilgrim-like.
- I have seen this painting a thousand times, and I just noticed that surrounding the girl, (who has her back at us), is a blotch of blotted green.  Making her stand out a bit, and separating her from her surroundings a bit.
I think Van Gogh meant it as a way to show her space, and thoughts.
